Only 50 km southeast of Guayaquil, discover the wilds of the mangrove forest at Manglares Churute Nature Reserve, one of the finest and most diverse protected areas in the Ecuadorian tropical lowlands: a must for nature lovers.

We will take a scenic morning boat ride through the best-preserved mangrove forests to be found along the Ecuadorian Pacific Coast, where we will discover a variety of riparian bird species such as egrets, herons, ibises, cormorants, pelicans, Roseate Spoonbill, kingfishers and much more. At low tide we will be able to observe how the locals collect red mangrove crabs, a coastal delicacy.

We will then take a short hike through the tropical dry forest where we will have a good chance of seeing Howler Monkeys. Return to Guayaquil with a stop at a small family-owned farm (finca) for lunch.

The site offers a short tour of the grounds where world famous Ecuadorian cacao is grown, among other exotic fruits. Learn how to prepare chocolate, starting with the raw cacao beans and savor the delicious final product.

Finally, enjoy a traditional meal made from homegrown farm products.

We return to Guayaquil, taking home with us unforgettable experiences and impressions of life in the tropical countryside.
